U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Coach Founds Grentz Elite Coaching

U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Coach and former NCAA Division I Head Women’s Basketball Coach Theresa Shank Grentz has founded Grentz Elite Coaching.

Coach Theresa Shank Grentz was the 1992 U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Coach. The Games (XXV Olympiad) were held in Barcelona, Spain.

Operating in the Philadelphia suburbs, Grentz Elite Coaching will specialize in basketball training and camps for boys and girls, one-on-one coaching for college bound athletes and professional mentoring for assistant and head coaches. Additionally, Coach Grentz is available for public speaking engagements.

Coach Grentz is the former head women’s basketball coach for The University of Illinois and Rutgers University. She is also the former president of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). While at Illinois, Grentz led her squad to the school’s only Big Ten crown in Women’s Basketball for which she was named Big Ten Coach of the Year and WBCA District Coach of the Year in 1997 and 1998. While at Rutgers, her team won the AIAW National Championship. She started her coaching career at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.

In 2001, Grentz was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

As a collegiate player, Grentz was a three-time All-American playing for the legendary Mighty Macs of Immaculata College now considered to be the birthplace of modern women’s college basketball. The Mighty Macs recently became the subject of the highly-acclaimed feature film of the same name released by Sony.

Grentz and her talented teammates won America’s first three national women’s college basketball championships in 1972, 1973 and 1974. The Mighty Macs were also one of the first two women’s collegiate teams to ever compete in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Upon her graduation from Immaculata College (now Immaculata University), where she majored in biology with a minor in chemistry, Grentz was named to the 1974 U.S. National team in the World Basketball Championship Games.

A native of Glenolden, Pennsylvania, Grentz played at Cardinal O’Hara High School, leading her team to three Philadelphia Catholic and City League titles.
